Presentation: Elephant-Friendly Travel Upgrade

Tens of thousands of captive wild animals in the world are suffering abuse both mentally and physically only for performing recreational activities, such as riding elephants, taking photos with tigers and swimming with dolphins, for tourists and these activities have become part of activities of many tourists. But studies have shown that most people involved in these activities do not understand the enormous damage brought to the animals. More than 150 global tourism companies have signed an initiative to stop selling and promoting cruel tourism and entertainment projects such as elephant riding or elephant show, having taken the first step of transformation towards an elephant-friendly future.

The joint initiative of the tourism industry and the World Animal Protection shows the strong demand of tourists for elephant-friendly tourism projects. The goal of this initiative is to promote venues providing elephant shows, elephant riding, direct contact with elephants and other activities to improve welfare conditions and take an active role in transformation, so that tourists can see elephants in the natural environment.
